The famous Hallstatt photograph is taken from the south end of the village, looking north along the lake toward the church tower and painted houses with the Dachstein peaks behind ((GPS [2])47.560813.6494 — approximately 200m south of the Marktplatz). At 06:00–07:30 in summer: no bus groups, only photographers and locals. The lake is mirror-flat in early morning. By 09:30 the first Salzburg buses arrive; by 11:00 the population of Hallstatt quadruples. After the photo: walk the Marktplatz (Hallstatt's main square, 200m long, medieval houses), visit the Marienkirche (15th century, Gothic chancel), and the lakefront promenade south.

Postcard (GPS [2])47.560813.6494. Pin this before arriving — the exact spot is a small lakefront platform 200m south of the Marktplatz, often unmarked.
The ferry to the village from Hallstatt Bahnhof: first ferry typically 06:30 in summer. If staying in the village (Heritage Hotel, Gasthof Simony), you're already there.
Bräugasthof Hallstatt (Seestraße 120): the best breakfast in Hallstatt — lakefront terrace, opens 07:00, traditional Austrian breakfast with regional dairy. Book a table for 07:30 to have the terrace to yourself before the crowds.
Marienkirche Friday evening organ concerts (July–August): if your Friday aligns, these are genuinely beautiful — 30 min, small capacity. Check schedule at hallstatt.net.
Hallstatt Marktplatz: the main square is both a tourist attraction and an active residential area. The houses are lived in year-round by ~800 permanent residents who navigate 10,000+ daily visitors in summer.
