Arrive by P&O ferry from Hull (overnight, 12h) or drive from Calais (2.5h). Rotterdam itself is worth a half-day — striking modern architecture, the Markthal food hall, and the Erasmusbrug bridge. The camperstop near the marina is your base. Park, sleep, explore in the morning.
Practical Tips
Ferry from Hull to Rotterdam (P&O Ferries): book early, ~€150–200 for motorhome return.
Arrive at Rotterdam Europoort — camperstop at the marina, follow signs.
Rotterdam LEZ: Euro 5+ required since 2025.
Markthal food hall — great for stocking up on Dutch cheeses, fresh bread, stroopwafels.
The heart of Dutch tulip country. Keukenhof is the world's largest flower garden — 7 million bulbs across 32 hectares. But the real magic is driving or cycling through the open fields between Lisse, Noordwijkerhout and Hillegom. The colours are overwhelming. Stay at the small marina campsite in Abbenes (5km from Keukenhof) — a baker's van comes in the morning.
Practical Tips
Keukenhof 2026 open: 19 March – 10 May. Book tickets online — adults €21.50.
Camper parking at Keukenhof: €12.50/day (book with entrance ticket). Day only — no overnight.
Better: sleep at Het Groene Hart (52.2264, 4.6191), cycle 5km to Keukenhof.
Arrive before 10:30am or after 4pm — fewer crowds, golden light.
Follow N208 or N44 through fields for scenic driving.
Flower Parade (Bloemencorso): 18 April 2026 — free to watch.
Volendam is a postcard-perfect Dutch fishing village on the IJmeer bay. Wide promenade, wooden houses painted in bright colours, women occasionally in traditional Volendam costume. The camperstop is right at the marina — walk 10-15 min to the old harbour. From here, take bus 316 directly to Amsterdam — no need to move the motorhome.
Practical Tips
NEVER drive your motorhome into Amsterdam — parking is impossible and expensive.
Bus 316 Volendam→Amsterdam Central: every 15 min weekdays. ~45 min.
Amsterdam LEZ: Euro 5+ diesel required since 2025.
Camperstop (GPS [2])52.4889985.060330 — follow marina signs.
Ferry from Volendam to Marken: €16 return — charming island.
Edam 5km away — source of Edam cheese.
Coordinates:[1] 52.48900, 5.06030 · [2] 52.48900, 5.06033
Possibly the most unique village in the Netherlands — and in Europe. There are no roads through the old village, only canals. Thatched farmhouses sit on islands connected by wooden footbridges. The only way to explore is by boat, bicycle, or on foot. Genuinely magical — especially in the morning before the day-trippers arrive. Stay two nights to see it properly.
Practical Tips
Arrive after 6pm or before 9am — incredibly busy midday.
Rent a whisper boat (fluisterboot) — silent electric, €15–25/hour. Essential for canals.
Alternatively: rent a canoe or kayak near the marina.
Walk to village from camperstop: ~15 min on foot.
Open-air museum De Oude Aarde has a great mineral collection.
Supermarket 200m from marina camperstop.
Southern route via Vollenhove is more scenic than E22 bridge.
The largest private nature reserve in the Netherlands — 5,500 hectares of heathland, sand dunes, forests and wildlife. Inside the park you'll find hundreds of white bicycles available for free — just pick one up and cycle. Red deer, wild boar, mouflons, and foxes roam freely. At the centre sits the Kröller-Müller Museum — the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world, plus a stunning sculpture garden. Allow a full day.
Practical Tips
Park entrance: €13.10/adult (2025). Includes free white bicycle use inside.
Kröller-Müller Museum included — 278 Van Gogh works.
Best time: morning for wildlife (deer most active at dawn).
Camperstop: Arnhem (15km) or Otterlo village (3km) — check park4night.
Red deer regularly cross main paths — safari feel.
No overnight camping inside the park.
The most 'un-Dutch' city in the Netherlands — Roman foundations, Belgian and French influences, medieval city walls, and a food culture that embarrasses the rest of the country. The camperstop is at the marina, a 15-minute walk from the old city centre. End your trip with a bottle of local wine, a portion of vlaai (Limburg fruit tart), and dinner on the Vrijthof square.
Practical Tips
St. Pietersberg caves: guided tours through 20km of underground chalk tunnels.
Vrijthof square: heart of Maastricht. Café terrace essential.
Try 'zoervleis' — Limburg sweet-and-sour beef stew. Only exists here.
10 min from Belgium, 20 min from Germany — easy onward route.
Camperstop at marina has sunset views over Maas river.
