Route Waypoints

3 hours

Pick up the motorhome at Bergen Airport and drive 20 min north to Bergen city centre. Park at Skansen garage outside the pedestrian zone ((GPS [2])60.39865.3238, €5/hour). Walk to Bryggen — the UNESCO-listed medieval wharf (1979) of 60 timber warehouse buildings rebuilt after the 1702 fire. The painted wooden facades lean at improbable angles from centuries of subsidence. The Hanseatic Museum inside one building shows the German merchant traders' living conditions (€10). Then: Fløibanen funicular from Vetrlidsallmenningen (GPS [3])60.39425.3270 up to Mount Fløyen (320m) — 10-minute ride, €15 return, Bergen panorama and the start of the city's hiking trail network.

Practical Tips

Bryggen: free to walk the alley system (Bryggens Smau) behind the facade buildings — the lanes are narrow, dark, and lined with workshops and small galleries. More interesting than the waterfront side.
Fløibanen: runs every 15 min, first car 07:30 (VERIFY at floyen.no for 2026 schedule). The last car down is 23:00 in summer. Walking up takes 45 min; the trails from the top are well-marked and free.
Fish market (Fisketorget): on the waterfront below Bryggen — tourist-oriented, overpriced for eating (€25+ for a fish portion). Better: Mathallen (indoor market, (GPS [4])60.39385.3239) for affordable local food or Bien Bakeri for pastries.
Bergen's KODE museum complex: four buildings with Norwegian and international art including the world's largest public Edvard Munch collection outside Oslo. €15/day pass (VERIFY at kodebergen.no). Worth 2h as a Bergen day-visit. Indoor backup for rain days.
Drive note: stock the motorhome at Rema 1000 (Flesland near airport, or in Bergen city) before heading south. Next significant supermarket is in Norheimsund (90 min).
